Jacksonville’s former head of sports & entertainment created hostile work environment, report finds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A long awaited investigation into the former head of Jacksonville’s sports and entertainment division has finally been released.

Ryan Ali was placed on paid administrative leave and resigned in December 2020 amid misconduct allegations.

There were 11 complaints, four were substantiated. This includes violation of the city of Jacksonville procurement code, creating a hostile work environment, falsifying time and attendance records and using city-owned equipment for personal use.

Action News Jax’s Ben Becker obtained the 73-page report Monday evening and this is what he found:

Ali was one of Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s notable appointees who did not last long in their positions.

Joe Peppers resigned under pressure following a controversial stint with the Kids Hope Alliance.

Curry also appointed Aaron Zahn, who is now indicted on federal fraud charges, to the JEA board.
