CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A 14-year-old Clay High School student was arrested on a charge of making written or electronic threats to kill after allegedly writing that a school shooting would occur in November on a bathroom wall, says the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
According to CCSO, the student came forward to school administration about the threat. The information was given to CCSO’s school resource officer, who immediately began looking into the threat. Following an investigation in conjunction with Clay County District Schools, it was determined the student who reported the threat was the one who wrote it.
The student was arrested and charged with written or electronic threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. CCSO says the suspect was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice - Duval County Detention Center and will face disciplinary action in accordance with the school district’s Student Code of Conduct.
The sheriff’s office encourages the community to report any threats or suspicious activity at schools through the FortifyFL app, the SaferWatch app, or by contacting the Clay County Sheriff’s Office by phone at (904)264-6512.
