4 in the country illegally charged with man in Jacksonville park, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four people are facing charges in connection with the murder of a man who was a legal refugee in the United States, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Action News Jax first told you about the shooting when it happened in the early morning hours on July 16 at Drew Park.

JSO said in a news release that the victim, 18-year-old Marvin Oporta Garcia, was found “with multiple gunshot wounds.”

Oporta Garcia died of his injuries before he could receive medical treatment, JSO said.

JSO’s Homicide Unit identified the four individuals as suspects in connection to Oporta Garcia’s murder:

  • Jose Hernandez Bermudez, 16
  • Kleber Martinez, 17
  • Daniel Ramirez Mato, 18
  • Russell Oliva Reyes, 21

All four suspects are in the U.S. without legal immigration status, JSO said. Authorities said Martinez and Oliva Reyes are from Honduras, Ramirez Mato is from Cuba, and Hernandez Bermudez is from Nicaragua.

Hernandez Bermudez, Martinez, and Ramirez Mato were arrested on Saturday and Reyes was arrested on Sunday, JSO said.

The four were booked into the Duval County Jail and JSO said it alerted federal authorities that they are in custody.
