NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A Callahan man was the fifth person arrested in connection with an incident in which a 1-year-old child ingested methamphetamine inside a home, says the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).
According to NCSO, the investigation began on February 24 after detectives learned that the child drank from a sippy cup that the parent found contained a bag of meth at the bottom.
Four other suspects—Hayden Simmons, Damien Windham, Erica Foley, and Judith Addison— identified 46-year-old Mark Allen Windham as the person who possessed the drug. The investigation also discovered that neither the parents nor the other residents called 911 after learning the child may have been exposed to the drug
NCSO says two of the witnesses told detectives that they witnessed Windham pour the contents into the sippy cup.
Sheriff Bill Leeper shared a statement regarding the arrest.
“Time doesn’t diminish our commitment to accountability. Our detectives continued working this case for months, following leads and pursuing every avenue until they identified and arrested everyone responsible,” Sheriff Leeper stated. “I’m proud of their persistence and dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Windham was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center on a bond exceeding $25,000 for Child Neglect Causing Great Bodily Harm and $2,500 for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Residue.
