From start to finish, students at Tiger Academy had a rocking good time Monday.
There was dancing and words from the wise.
“It’s my time to be able to educate, but also inspire, motivate the youth,” Jimmy Gomez, also known as “Taboo”, explained.
People may recognize Taboo from songs like "Boom Boom Pow."
His group The Black Eyed Peas has sold millions of records worldwide. That’s why students and staff were excited to learn some new moves from the pop star.
“They’re sitting a little longer than most kids, so giving them an opportunity to get up, move about and get some energy out gives them time to come back into the classroom and get back to work,” math teacher Leanne Gorman said.
Taboo said he's strong advocate for healthy living, The American Cancer Society and leadership. He grew up in East Los Angeles and has a heart for kids in the inner city.
“I speak the same language you speak. I come from the same type of situations that you come from and look what I did with my life. Anything is possible."
Taboo’s next stop is at a school in New Orleans.
His appearance at Tiger Academy was a push to the YMCA’s “Healthy Kids Day” Saturday at the Brooks location on the Southside.
