Brunswick Downtown Development Authority to receive $750,000 historic revitalization grant

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The City of Brunswick’s Downtown Development Authority was selected to receive a $750,000 Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant from the National Park Service, according to an Oct. 14 announcement in Brunswick, Ga.

The federal funding will support the creation of the Brunswick 255th Anniversary Revitalization Grant Program, known as BQK255. The local subgrant program is designed to preserve and improve historic commercial properties across the city.

Eligible owners of historic commercial properties will be able to apply for subgrants of up to $50,000. Program rules require a 10% match from each applicant.

Funding will prioritize physical preservation, structural rehabilitation, weatherproofing, long-term resilience, and accessibility improvements.

Mathew Hill serves as executive director of the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority. Hill noted the role the funds will play for local building owners and commercial areas.

“Receiving this $750,000 is a transformative win for Brunswick,” Hill said. “BQK255 will help reduce financial barriers for property owners, preserve our historic commercial buildings and strengthen the resilience of our historic commercial districts.”

The subgrant program is supported in part by the Bruhn grant through the Historic Preservation Fund, which is administered by the National Park Service under the Department of the Interior.

The Brunswick Downtown Development Authority is currently in the planning phase for the program. Detailed application guidelines, official eligibility criteria, and launch timelines for BQK255 will be released in the coming months.
