CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A planned child custody exchange turned into a shooting between two men in Oakleaf Plantation on Friday afternoon, says the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
According to CCSO, before 5 p.m., deputies received several calls regarding gunfire on Bayridge Court. Moments later, they received calls about a car that had crashed down Piedmont Manor Drive and a man running through a homeowner’s backyard.
Detectives learned that two married but separated parents met for a planned custody swap when the father and the mother’s current boyfriend exchanged gunfire with children present.
CCSO says nobody was shot, but stray bullets damaged nearby homes. One suspect ran through backyards in a cul-de-sac on Bayridge Court before deputies located him shortly after. The second suspect drove off and crashed into a tree. A K-9 unit, assisted by a community member, found him nearby, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of lower-extremity injuries.
All parties involved were detained, and there is no threat to the community. The sheriff’s office says this remains an ongoing investigation.
