JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Duval County School Superintendent spoke at a briefing Friday night after a teen was shot outside a school football game.
The shooting happened four minutes before the end of a football game played at Terry Parker High School. Terry Parker was playing Ribault High School.
Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said, "First I want to convey my sympathy to the family, and our thoughts and prayers are right now focused on this young man and hoping that he will recover."
"It is frustrating because I care for each and every one of our students, and they're safety is a vital importance to our school district. And when we see violence that you can't explain, it is always going to lead to concern and frustration," Greene said, "But I have the great amount of confidence in our police department and our collaboration with JSO to ensure that, as Mrs. Pardue, staff, knew exactly what to do to ensure that the football players were all safe, cheerleaders, everyone was safe inside the stadium and we were able to dismiss in an organized matter."

Greene said that getting on the ground during a disturbance like this is procedure players of any competative school sport learn.
Greene said that she has not had a chance to speak with the teen who was injured or his family, but that staff, the principal that will support that student, is headed to the hospital to speak with the parents.
Greene said that the school district has made dramatic changes since the fatal Raines High School football shooting in August. "One is lightening. We've imporved lighting at many of our locations."
