Jax Waste Wizard helps Jacksonville residents manage trash and recycling

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville is promoting its free Jax Waste Wizard tool to mark National Customer Service Week, which runs from Oct. 5 to Oct. 9. The digital feature gives residents immediate answers on disposal guidelines for household items while providing access to personalized collection schedules.

The database is accessible online here and through the Jacksonville Waste & Recycle app, which has been downloaded more than 5,000 times. The tool supports 904Lean, Jacksonville’s continuous improvement program aimed at eliminating unnecessary steps and rework in municipal services.

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan highlighted the mobile tool as an essential channel for municipal services. “Great customer service means meeting people where they are, and for a lot of our residents, that’s on their phone,” Deegan said. “The Jax Waste Wizard provides clear answers in seconds, any time of day. When residents get it right the first time, we get fewer missed pickups, fewer callbacks, and a cleaner city. That’s what good government should feel like.”

Residents can enter their home address into the system to locate collection days and build custom schedules downloadable to iCal, Google Calendar, or Microsoft Outlook. The platform also offers automated pickup reminders by email, text, or phone call, as well as notification alerts for schedule disruptions caused by holidays or severe weather.

Recent updates to the mobile application focused on improving visual design, fixing calendar sync issues, and accelerating search response times. The platform also features a direct link to MyJax, enabling users to report missed collections or submit service requests without navigating multiple web pages.

City officials noted that accurate waste sorting prevents contaminated recycling loads from being rejected, which keeps processing costs down. Proper disposal also reduces overflowing trash carts, cuts down on repeat pickup routes and decreases routine call volume to the city’s customer service line.

City of Jacksonville Customer Service Manager Monica Cichowlas encouraged residents to try the database. “The Jax Waste Wizard gives our community confidence that the answers they need are always in one place,” Cichowlas said. “We encourage everyone to check out the Jax Waste Wizard before their next collection day.”

Residents who require one-on-one assistance or need to report urgent issues can still contact the city directly by calling 904-630-2489 or visiting here.
