JSO: 16-year-old shot while walking in Jacksonville Heights

This is the second juvenile shot in less than 24 hours in Duval County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating yet another shooting in 2021 involving a juvenile.

Police said a 16-year-old female walked into the Park West ER with a gunshot wound on her lower body around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

She told police she was walking with three other individuals on Renault Drive from Hillman Drive when a black car, possibly a BMW, pulled up and started shooting.

According to JSO, a male in the group that was walking returned fire, then everyone ran away.

There was no other suspect information provided, and JSO said there was no scene, no other witnesses of the shooting.

Detectives from the aggravated battery unit are currently investigating the incident.

This shooting comes right after Monday evening’s incident in which police said a 6-year-old was shot in the hand.

According to Action News Jax’s records, 36 people under the age of 18 have been shot in Duval county in 2021. In 2020 there were 31, and 32 in 2019.

Overall, this was Duval’s 353rd shooting in 2021.
