Multiple people said they didn’t hear any smoke or fire alarms at first.

Action News Jax learned a fire safety inspection was slated to occur at the property before the end of February.

The State Fire Marshal Chief said he visited the property Monday to address questions surrounding whether the property’s fire alarm system had activated.

Action News Jax requested the recent fire safety inspections at the complex.

Documents show no fire code violations were found during the latest inspection in July 2018.

The complex failed an inspection in September 2016 for not maintaining the required annual inspection of the fire alarm system.

During a reinspection the following month, the property fixed the fire code violation was found to have been fixed, which resulted in the property receiving a “pass” status.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Investigators said the fire doesn’t appear suspicious at this time.
