A man from Huntsville, Alabama, is making it his mission in life to help others one lawn at a time.
Action News Jax caught up with him earlier on Friday, while he was in North Jacksonville to find out more about his journey and the lives he’s touching.
Rodney Smith Jr. created an organization called Raising Men Lawn Care Service and is currently traveling to all 50 states helping veterans, the elderly and single mothers who need help with their lawn care.
Smith received a text message from a woman telling him her mother needs help in North Jacksonville.
“Her father passed away so I’m here mowing the lawn. As you can see, it’s kind of big, well, overgrown a little bit but I like challenge so I’m going to take it down,” said Smith.

Rodney received his calling back in 2015 when he saw an older man outside struggling to mow his lawn.
His work is now inspiring others around the world after he created the 50 Yard Challenge, in which he is challenging children everywhere to mow 50 lawns in their community.
“Today, about 25 kids nationwide have completed this and currently we have 280-plus kids nationwide,” who are taking part in the challenge, Smith said.
