JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is asking the community for prayers for an officer who was shot in the face and throat.

K-9 Officer Jeremy Mason is recovering from his 12th surgery since a chase and shootout with a bank robbery suspect last June. Now that officer is in legal trouble.

The report said when Mason was pulled over, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his speech was severely slurred.

According to an arrest report, Mason ran through a stoplight while speeding. Police said he swerved, and drove through several cones in a construction area.

Officials said he slammed on his brakes, almost hitting a bulldozer, with several construction workers nearby.

When the officer asked for his driver’s license, Mason reportedly handed him his debit card.

JSO said Mason still has a lot of physical struggles. They said breathing, exercising and even vacationing with his family is extremely difficult.
