Grave-side memorial service held for presidential protection K-9

Full military honors, including a 21 gun salute, were given to recently deceased K-9 Officer Nash Saturday morning at a Jacksonville pet funeral home.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced on Aug. 26 that 8-year-old Nash had passed away.

Earlier that week, Nash was taken to the vet after his handlers noticed he wasn't feeling well.

After an extensive examination, Nash was diagnosed with cancer, but it was too late -- the cancer spread quickly to his liver, spleen and kidneys causing fluid to get into his lungs and heart.

A permanent memorial will be installed in Nash's honor at the Police K-9 Memorial Monument in the Jacksonville pet funeral home's cemetery.

It will include an exact replica of his paw impression.

Nash was born at Lackland Air Force Base in 2010. He was trained as a bite and explosive presidential protection perimeter sweeper for Air Force One and Air Force Two.

Nash provided protection for many individuals, including President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
