JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s a new year soon and a new chance to bring home a new furry forever friend.
The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is offering free pet adoptions to ring in 2022.
If you take home any of the sweet animals, they’ll go home spayed or neutered.
They’ll also be micro-chipped and up to date on all their shots.
JHS is hosting its “New Year, New Pet” adoption special today and tomorrow on New Year’s Day.

“Today we are having a free adoption special so we’re inviting the community to come out and adopt a pet with no adoption fee,” Lauren Jackowiec, director of operations with the JHS, said.
Normally cats and large dogs would cost you around $50 to adopt. For puppies and smaller dogs, you’re paying around $150.
Last year, the JHS saved over 7,200 animals, and it performed more than 6,700 spay and neuter surgeries.
Right now, it’s hoping to find homes for around 40 dogs and 30 cats and give a forever home to some animals like Sharpie who have been at the humane society for a while.

“He loves tennis balls, so you can play fetch with him all day and overall, he’s just a really sweet dog,” Jackowiec said.
And who knows, if you do bring in a pet for the new year, it might even help you keep some of your New Year’s resolutions.
“No matter what your goal is, there’s a pet for you. So if your goal is to take better care, give yourself a little more relaxation, we have pets that love to snuggle. If you are into the fitness goals, we also have dogs that love to exercise,” Jackowiec said.
If you didn’t make it out to the JHS’s adoption event on Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., you can come out on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
