Officers arrested a Jacksonville man in Clay County after a man was found shot to death in Palatka early Saturday morning.
Police were called to North 10th Street in Palatka around 4:30 a.m. and found Rory Hayward, 31, dead in the master bedroom of his home.
Witnesses gave a description of a suspect and police sent out an alert to surrounding counties to be on the look out.
Clay County deputies found Jenkins, a 34-year-old from Jacksonville, at a Gate gas station in Green Cove Springs.
Jenkins was arrested and charged with first degree homicide and armed burglary of an occupied dwelling.
Palatka police said Jenkins was dating the sister of Hayward's girlfriend.
Action News Jax spoke with Hayward’s stepsister, who described him as a loving father to a 4-year-old daughter.
Officers said the motive is unclear.
