JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens is hosting an art competition for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to design wildlife-inspired lanterns. Artwork submissions for the contest are due by September 2.
Participating students are asked to create lantern designs inspired by a vulnerable, threatened or endangered animal or plant cared for by the zoo.
Submissions can range from realistic depictions to imaginative or fantasy-inspired concepts.
Selected student designs will be transformed into illuminated lanterns. The finished artwork will be displayed at the zoo’s Lantern Festival to showcase species-protection efforts.
