PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A Palatka woman remained in Putnam County jail Monday morning on no bond after being arrested and accused of breaking into a home and taking one of her children.
Deputies say Amanda Lynn Burkes, 33, broke into the home of the child’s biological grandmother Friday on Ranchette Trail in Palatka and left with the child prompting a search.
The court gave the grandmother custody of the child and Burkes wasn’t allowed to have unsupervised visits, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Burkes was later found with the child hiding in the bathroom at Oakhill Baptist Church.
“During a search of Burkes prior to her arrest deputies also found THC wax and e-cigarettes containing THC liquid,” a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office social media post states.
Burkes was arrested in May after Putnam County sheriff’s deputies found her sleeping in a car with three small children at a Palatka church. The children ranged in age from an infant to 4 years old.
Deputies searched her car and reported finding marijuana, drug paraphernalia and trafficking amounts of methamphetamine. Burkes was charged with three counts of child neglect, trafficking amounts of amphetamine, possession of a vehicle for drug activity, possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a place of worship, marijuana possession and drug equipment possession.
Burkes’ current charges include family offense, burglary, three counts of child neglect and multiple drugs/trafficking charges.
