JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Teen dies after shooting at The Jacksonville Landing

Officers are questioning 30 witnesses after a 13-year-old and 16-year-old were shot at a popular destination in downtown Jacksonville on Monday afternoon.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Asst. Chief Scott Dingee said the 16-year-old has life-threatening injuries after the shooting that happened right outside the doors to The Jacksonville Landing.

JSO said the 13-year-old's wounds are not life-threatening.

Officers said the shooting may be related to a shooting that happened during the first Art Walk of the year on Jan. 4, just blocks away from The Landing.

Dingee said it appears that Monday's shooting outside The Landing was not related to any Martin Luther King Jr. city events such as the downtown parade or a celebration at Hemming Park.

Dingee also said that parents need to be aware of where their children are and who they hang out with.

Witnesses say there was a group of teenagers at the Landing before the shooting.

One witness told Action News Jax that two people with guns got into a white car and took off toward the Main Street Bridge after the shooting.

Dingee said one handgun was recovered and police are looking at the possibility that there were multiple shooters. No suspect information is available at this time.

Sleiman Enterprises, which manages the Landing, released a statement:

"The incident that occurred on city property outside of the Landing today saddens us. This is an ongoing investigation by Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, therefore we cannot comment any further."

Sky Action News Jax flew above the scene and several Action News Jax reporters are talking with witnesses.

Hooters at The Landing tells Action News Jax that The Landing is closed. Employees were told not to come to work.

People who were at The Landing were posting to social media about the shooting. One man said a guy pulled out a gun and fired five to 10 rounds.

Witnesses told Action News Jax that some social posts may have alluded to the possibility of a shooting at The Landing beforehand. Dingee said if anyone sees social posts of that manner that may talk about the possibility of a fight or a shooting, contact JSO right away.
