Salvation Army of Northeast Florida sets Oct. 15 deadline for holiday aid

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida has set Thursday, Oct. 15, as the registration deadline for families seeking holiday assistance through its Thanksgiving meal and Angel Tree gift programs.

The initiatives provide holiday food and Christmas presents to eligible local families in need.

The Thanksgiving meal program, known as Can-U-Care, and the Angel Tree gift distribution aim to help households facing financial uncertainty during the holiday season. The Salvation Army has served the Jacksonville community since 1891.

Applicants seeking support must submit several financial and residential documents before the deadline. Required documentation includes the first page of a 2025 tax return, proof of income such as pay stubs or benefit award letters, and proof of residence through a lease, utility bill or official mail.

To verify household details, applicants must also present a current photo ID, Social Security cards for verification purposes and birth certificates or passports for all family members included in the application.

The organization’s social services team, led by Director of Social Services Minerva Torres Collazo and Volunteer Recruiter Sheila Wright, manages the registration process.

Beyond seasonal holiday assistance, the organization runs year-round local programs addressing emergency disaster response, domestic violence, and substance abuse.
