ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County has partnered with local organizations to host a free event on Nov. 17 designed to connect area businesses with regional farmers. The session will run from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Floridian in St. Augustine.
The gathering is organized alongside Slow Food First Coast and the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau to promote the Snail of Approval program.
The designation recognizes food purveyors, restaurateurs, and artisans who prioritize locally sourced products, environmental stewardship, and community involvement.
The host venue, The Floridian, located at 485 Old Beach Road, was among the original local businesses to receive the Snail of Approval designation. The upcoming session offers existing participants an opportunity to renew their status while introducing new chefs, retailers and restaurant operators to eligibility requirements. Registration for the event is available online through 904Tix.
Prissy Fletcher serves as the agricultural liaison for St. Johns County. County staff will participate in the event to help align local commercial demand with the seasonal availability of produce grown across Northeast Florida.
“Connecting our local businesses with our farmers creates opportunities to strengthen our local food system while helping businesses better understand what is grown here and when it is available,” Fletcher said. “This event is a great opportunity to recognize businesses already supporting local agriculture and introduce more businesses to the Snail of Approval program.”
Selection criteria for the program also consider employee support, cultural diversity in food, and inclusive business practices. Slow Food First Coast was established in St. Augustine in 2007 and operates as a chapter of Slow Food USA.
