The St. Johns County School Board approved the names of two new K-8 schools that are set to open in August.

On Tuesday, the school district announced that the school formerly known as K-8 “KK” will be named Palm Valley Academy.

Palm Valley Academy is at 2135 Palm Valley Road at in Nocatee.

The schools were built to help relieve overcrowding for kindergarten through eighth grades at schools in northern St. Johns County.

The other school previously known as K-8 “LL," which is at 1365 Shetland Drive in Aberdeen, will be named Freedom Crossing Academy.

The planned capacity for each school is approximately 1,490 students.

The construction budget for the schools was a combined $78 million.

The school district said one of the schools was funded through the voter-approved half-cent sales surtax.

The second school was funded with sales tax, school impact fees and proportionate share mitigation funds paid by new development.

The mascots for the schools have yet to be picked. Teacher selections are expected to be made prior to budget meetings beginning in April.
