The St. Johns County School District unveiled its school safety plan for the upcoming school year.
During the meeting Wednesday, Superintendent Tim Forson said the district is asking for 15 additional school resource officers on campuses.
That’s on top of the 15 sheriff deputies the school district had for the 2017-2018 school year.
Denver Cook has two children in the St. Johns County School District. He said the school safety plan falls short of his expectations.
With 39 campuses in St. Johns County, the district plans to hire a third-party contractor to add armed guards in the leftover schools.
“It's a weak proposal in my view. There's not a law-enforcement officer in every school,” Cook pointed out.
Superintendent Forson said that’s simply not a reality because there’s not enough funding.
