ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County Fire Rescue completed a Trench Operations training class last Thursday. The instruction was designed to strengthen crews’ abilities to handle technical rescues in challenging environments.
The course focused on identifying trench hazards, installing shoring systems, and gaining victim access. Firefighters also practiced the coordinated operations needed to safely manage trench rescue incidents.
The St. Johns County Road and Bridge Department assisted with the training by helping set up a live trench for the hands-on instruction.
Squad four participated in the exercise. Fire rescue officials noted that trench incidents leave little room for error, requiring hands-on experience to help crews operate safely when responding to calls.
