JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The parents of 12-year-old Weston Pye reached out to Action News Jax for help after they said their son was shoved by a staff member at Baldwin Middle-Senior High School.

“My son told me he felt threatened. I’m not going to take that lightly,’” Michelle Pye said.

Pye’s son, Weston, who’s in the 7th grade, claims a paraprofessional pushed him into a classroom last week.

“He took it as I wasn’t walking fast enough for him,” Weston said. “I was right by the door and he pushed me in the door.”

The Duval County Public School District said it’s aware of the alleged incident and investigating.

Action News Jax is not naming the teacher because the investigation is still active.

The student claims the paraprofessional then told him he was going to grab him by the backpack and take his phone.

“It was uncomfortable,” Weston said.

Weston has gastroparesis and needs a feeding tube. Pye said a simple nudge could knock the tube out and her son would end up in the hospital.

Anything can happen,” Pye said. “He’s a little fragile.”

According to the parents, the alleged incident was caught on camera, but the school resource officer wouldn’t show them the footage.

Pye said she feels like they’re getting the runaround from the school.

“I would like him to apologize to my son,” Pye said.

Weston said the staff members should be setting the example for students.

“I just want him to learn that he can’t do that to other students,” Weston said. “You never know what they’re going to go through.”

A spokesperson for DCPS said these reports are taken seriously and appropriate action will take place pending the outcome of the investigation.
