Uptick in tropical activity as Hurricane Gert moves away from U.S.

As Hurricane Gert moves away from Jacksonville and the East Coast, we are keeping our eyes on two waves in the Atlantic.

An uptick in activity over the Atlantic Basin is underway and will continue for at least the next 10 to 13 days.

A large but disorganized area of "disturbed" weather, 91L, is over the Eastern Atlantic.

Talking the Tropics with Mike: Hurricane Gert between U.S. & Bermuda

Overall conditions are expected to be favorable for the development of a tropical cyclone this week.

It appears that 91L is destined for the Caribbean.

A trailing wave, 92L, should end up farther north.

Its ultimate course may be dictated by how early the potential tropical cyclone develops.

First Alert Meteorologist Mike Buresh is monitoring both waves.
