The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported an assault with injuries at the River City Inn in North Jacksonville on Thursday morning.

Action News Jax spoke to guests at the motel who said they witnessed a man stab a housekeeper on the second-floor balcony as she was sweeping the area, then run back into his room. They also pointed to a person being detained in the back of a squad car as the person responsible.

JSO said they could not confirm any of that information at this time. Action News Jax requested the case report and is waiting to hear back.

A guest told Action News Jax she found the housekeeper screaming for help Thursday morning.

“I looked and she had blood all over her and she said, ‘Why won’t nobody help me?’.” Brenda Ruff said. “Then I looked again real shocked and said, “It’s you that’s been stabbed!'”

Ruff said she helped the housekeeper put pressure on a wound to her neck and called 911 for help. They waited with her until help arrived.

The woman was “in hysterics, covered with blood, holding her neck, blood everywhere,” Ruff said.

Ruff said she believes the housekeeper will be OK because she was able to talk to the first-responder. Action News Jax reached out to police to learn an update on a possible victim and is waiting to hear back.

“If there’s any more wounds, I didn’t see,” Riff said. “She wasn’t holding anything else, she just kept holding her neck.”

Action News Jax reached out to the motel’s management to learn if they had any further information and has not heard back.

“She cleans the area where we stay,” Riff said about the housekeeper. “She’s all bubbly, giggling, laughing, a happy person, seems to be.”

Action News Jax saw a JSO Crime Scene van pull around the side of the motel where the guests said the incident happened. Cameras captured police take items out of a hotel room, including what appeared to be a wad of money in a plastic bag.

“It has shaken me up real bad and I thank the Lord I was raised to believe in God. Because he was watching over all of us.”
