Jacksonville — A woman’s post on social media in a Jacksonville group is gaining a lot of attention for her services.

In the post, the woman wrote “I do braces!!!! Dm me,,, kids special this month is $400.”

According to the woman’s service description, she works out of her home, but she’s willing to travel to patients.

She wrote that patients should be prepared for pain.

Action News Jax is not naming the woman because we have yet to confirm her identity.

Doctor Vaughn Holland with Ortega Orthodontics said he was shocked to hear about the post.

“It’s so hard to believe something like this is even happening,” Dr. Holland said.

The doctor said he would never recommend getting braces at someone’s house.

He said it’s concerning from a health and safety standpoint.

“There is a reason why you’re not supposed to practice dentistry without a license,” Dr. Holland said.

Action News Jax reached out to the Florida Department of Health to find out if the woman is licensed and to learn if they’re investigating.

The Department said it can’t comment on any complaints or pending investigations.

Dr. Holland said there’s an art and science that goes into moving teeth. He said if braces aren’t done properly it could lead to lifelong complications like joint issues or even tooth or bone loss.

“I’d highly recommend if you want teeth to be moved to see and orthodontic specialist,” Dr. Holland said.
