JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several local stores are already seeing a run on supplies ahead of Hurricane Matthew. Action News Jax spoke to shoppers who say they just want to be prepared.

“As you can see, it’s pretty much wiped out. They have even taken our display models,” said Rob Curtis, assistant manager at Lowe's on Atlantic Boulevard.

He said the generators are sold out. Also sold out are lanterns, flashlights and batteries, which are key items for storm kits, along with water. Curtis said they sold eight pallets of water already on Tuesday.

At the Publix on Marsh Landing, the shelves are getting low on both water and bread.

“It was pretty busy, a lot of people in there loading up on groceries and water,” said Frank Reid, shopper.

Which is why shoppers like Jessica Pettry are getting the items they need now.

“I felt like if I didn’t do it today, tomorrow may be a little too late. Just don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Pettry.

From the shelves to the pump, gas is running out. At the Shell station on Race Track Road, only premium gas is left.

But some good news; more supplies are on the way, and Curtis has some advice.

"Don't panic. But just don't wait to the last minute, because there's a good chance it won't be there when you go to get it," says Curtis.

“I got water, and I’m all set to go, hopefully. I’ll keep my fingers crossed,” said Reid.

Most store managers Action News Jax spoke to say more supplies will be coming in overnight and Wednesday.
