Michelle Wadsworth and her three children visited the candy shop for the first time Tuesday.
“We came out to get a tour of Sweet Pete’s, it’s been here for a while and we’ve never been,” Wadsworth said.
Founder Pete Behringer says something about the store makes people feel at home.
“It’s my community, that’s the part of it that makes me want to stay downtown,” Behringer said.

Despite its reputation, the proposed $2.5 million sale of the historic building has created a sticky situation for him.
“We will either decide to stay or we will find a new location, it will depend a lot upon what my partner decides to do,” Behringer added.
The founder wants to stay in Downtown Jacksonville but he's not sure if that'll happen.
“Give us a timeline. The kids come, they talk about it at school. I’m a school teacher and I just wanted to see what it was like,” said Wadsworth.
If things don’t work out, Behringer says he would relocate and keep the business up and running somewhere else.
“We love downtown. We like supporting downtown and that would be our preference,” said Behringer.
The store will continue to sell Sweet Pete’s candy.
People who come to the candy shop often are enjoying it while it’s here.
