The Parkway Inn in Orange Park, formerly known as the Rodeway Inn, closed permanently on Friday.

The motel has been a hotbed for crime for years, authorities said.

Action News Jax has been following the story for more than a year.

Town attorneys said there were public safety, health and building code violations.

The chief of police sent Action News Jax 18 pages' worth of calls for service in the last year at the motel. The 600 different calls range from burglaries to drugs to assault.

“Everyone knows about it,” said neighbor Cleve Carter, who said the closure was a long time coming. “I'm very glad, actually. My wife works right behind there and she’s excited as well.”

A family loading up their SUV were the last people seen packing up Friday afternoon.

Carter said Orange Park is a small town, and everyone was tired of the crime.

“There was everything from meth labs to prostitution, nothing that sounds good for Orange Park,” Carter said.
