Action News Jax Family Focus partner Publix Super Markets donated $5 Million to Feeding America Network to kick-off September’s Hunger Action Month. The donation, made through Publix Super Markets Charities, will go to 28 member food banks and 38 of their local partner agencies.
Feeding Northeast Florida, which provided 12.5 million meals locally in 2015, received a check for $150,000 from Publix Super Markets at the announcement.

The donation will go towards funding to support emergency food boxes, senior feeding initiatives and kids back pack programs. Refrigerated trucks are also needed to transport perishable items that are donated by food retailers.
“Hunger is an issue that affects every community in our country. We are thankful to Publix Charities for its generous contribution to the Feeding America network, and for its commitment to addressing hunger,” said Matt Knott, President of Feeding America.
Many nonprofits and food banks in the area receive food donations from Feeding Northeast Florida, such as Clara White Mission in Downtown and Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministries in Jacksonville Beach.
