1 dead, another injured in early-morning crash on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person is dead and another is at the hospital after a head-on crash in Jacksonville’s Westside early Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers said a pickup truck slammed into a SUV on Normandy Boulevard, not far from Yellow Water Road around 7:30 a.m.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside his vehicle.First responders desperately worked to get him out, but it was too late. The driver of the SUV was transported by fire-rescue to St. Vincent's in Clay County. FHP said the man will be OK.

"We just need to pay attention to what's going on around us when we're driving," Lt. Kevin Blom with FHP said as a reminder.
All lanes of Normandy Boulevard were closed from Yellow Water Road to about U.S. 301 for a several of hours due to the investigation and clean-up.
