CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County is offering local high school seniors a firsthand look at local government through its “Commissioner for a Day” program.
Five students will be selected to shadow District 1 Commissioner John Sgromolo for a full workday on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Participants will accompany Sgromolo to meetings with county leaders and site visits, gaining insight into how departments such as public safety, emergency management, animal services and public works operate and collaborate to serve the community.
The program is open to Clay County high school seniors. Applicants must submit an online application that includes basic personal information, such as name, contact details and GPA, along with a one- to two-minute video responding to the prompt: “What is your definition of leadership? What does great leadership look like in action?”

The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 4, 2026. Participants will be announced Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
