GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Three people who were on an apparent multi-state crime spree were arrested after they forced their way into a Gainesville apartment with a gun, tied up victims with duct tape and stole a car, according to authorities.
Police said Quintae Edwards, Kwame O. Fernanders and Kayla L. Black forced their way into the apartment with a gun and used duct tape to tie the victims up while they ransacked the place.
They took one of the victims to the ATM to get money, came back to the apartment and stole a car.
They took a female victim with them to ensure the others did not call the police and later let her go at North Florida Regional Medical Center, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
The group was arrested at a Tallahassee inn after detectives traced a victim’s stolen iPhone.
A Leon County deputy found Edwards, 23, inside the stolen car outside of a Baymont Inn in Tallahassee.
Edwards had a room key on him which led officers to a room that Fernanders, 22, and Black, 18, were inside.
The group drove to Gainesville in an SUV stolen from South Carolina, where all three are from.
They are persons of interest in a North Carolina homicide and investigators are trying to determine why the suspects targeted Gainesville.
All three are currently being held in Leon County Jail.
