There’s a new push to feed the hungry in Jacksonville this holiday season.
The “We Can” food drive is a collaboration between eight barbershops and beauty salons across The River City. Organizer Mo Hutson says he noticed families in need in route to work, and could no longer turn a blind eye.
The goal is to get clients and locals to donate canned food or whatever they have. In The Word International will then take what’s collected and prepare a feast the week before Thanksgiving.
“It’s kind of heartbreaking. I was thinking ‘what can I do, what can we do, how can I do my part? How can we help – then I got the idea of doing a food drive,” Hutson explained.
The “We Can” food drive is accepting donations through November 18 at the following locations:
- Hair Architects Grooming and Styling Salon
- Immaculate Image Barber Shop
- Kingz Court
- Diva's Beautique
- First Coast Barber Shop
- Center Stage I
- Center Stage II
- Flip Mode Barber Shop
Organizers are still in need of a meat sponsor.
