Body identified that was pulled to shore at Jacksonville Beach by paddleboarder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 6/2: Man who was pulled from the ocean was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office and was confirmed to be 19-year-old Curtis A. Newkirk Jr.


A body found offshore on Jacksonville Beach Wednesday morning has not been identified.

According to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, a paddleboarder

pulled a male’s body in from about 100 yards offshore.

“We were out on the balcony; it was probably like 10:30 and we saw the first firetruck,” said beachgoer, Lindi Boyd.

Lindi Boyd and her friends saw the emergency vehicles arrive at the beach on Wednesday.

“We all went out there and a second fire truck pulled up to the corner,” said Boyd.

The emergency vehicles she saw responded to a body found in the water and pulled ashore.

While confirming the body was that of an adult male, Jax Beach Police said they cannot further identify him at this time.

Over the memorial day weekend, ocean rescue rescued a total of 21 people, bringing swimmers in distress back to shore and on Sunday a teen was reported missing in the waters off of Jax beach. The search for 19-year-old Curtis Newkirk continues.

According to The First Alert Weather Team, Wednesday was a red flag day with rough surf, and rip current risks are going to increase as we head into the weekend.
