Camden County officials warn of tainted drugs after several suffer life-threatening overdoses

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — The Camden County Sheriff’s Office says tainted drugs are likely behind a string of life-threatening overdoses reported this weekend.

According to deputies, on the evening of June 18, paramedics responded to several calls reporting people either unconscious or unresponsive.

At each incident, first responders performed life-saving measures, including CPR and emergency administering of Narcan, a prescription medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency. Camden Emergency Management says not all were able to be revived.

The warning comes less than a day after the Kingsland Police Department issued its own warning on social media.

Investigators now believe each case is connected, likely caused by the use of illegal recreational narcotics laced with a deadly amount of Fentanyl, a powerful drug that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent.

Police believe an unknown person or small group of people recently distributed the deadly narcotic mix into the community.

Anyone who has recently purchased illegal narcotics, including marijuana, law enforcement pleads that they do not use them as they may also be part of the deadly mix.

“If anyone has any information regarding these incidents or where these deadly doses came from, please reach out to local law enforcement as you may be saving a life,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
