Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Division Chief of the city's Animal Care and Protective Services has resigned her post, Action News Jax has learned.

In the letter dated Sept. 13, 2015, Nicole "Nikki" Harris wrote, "Although this has been a difficult decision to make, I am pursuing other opportunities that I believe will help me reach my long-term career goals. I hope you will understand my reasons for moving on from the City of Jacksonville."

Harris wrote in the letter she will compelete her employment on Oct. 7. She also wrote to "please rescind my former request for reappointment."

Harris' resignation comes over a year after a whistleblower accused ACPS employees of engaging in inappropriate conduct and improperly euthanized animals. The city later said the accusations were unfounded.
