Man arrested on attempted murder charge after incident in Oakleaf area, Clay County deputies say

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — 6:30 P.M. UPDATE: The person of interest who was arrested has been identified as 47-year-old Dwayne Russell.

Russell was arrested on a charge of attempted murder, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Russell admitted to shooting a woman multiple times, and the victim was alert and conscious after the shooting, the report said.

Russell is a Jacksonville Transportation Authority employee, Action News Jax has learned. JTA released the following statement:

“The JTA is aware of a domestic incident involving a JTA employee that happened outside of the workplace. Our thoughts are with the family and everyone involved. During this time, our focus will continue to be on the well-being of the entire JTA workforce and providing any support they need as we all try to process this news.”

10:30 A.M. UPDATE: The Sheriff’s Office said they have located the “person of interest” and that person is in custody. CCSO said there is no threat to the community.

There is an active investigation underway in the Oakleaf area near Hawksmore Drive, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they are investigating an incident but did not go into detail.
