Community honors fallen deputies as bodies escorted back to Gilchrist County

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Trenton to mourn two deputies who were killed in an ambush attack Thursday.

Sirens could be heard from dozens of law enforcement vehicles as they were escorting the fallen heroes back to Gilchrest County from Gainesville.

For about a mile stretch, people lined the street and showed their support for Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Deputy Taylor Lindsey.

“It’s a great loss, it’s two big guys in the community who supported everybody so why not come out and support them?” said neighbor Jason Williams.

The deputies were inside a Chinese restaurant when they were shot and killed.

“They were good men, good officers,” said neighbor Keith Hurst.

Under the window that was pierced with bullets, there's now a growing memorial.

“These guys protected us when we needed them,” Williams said.

Throughout the area, there is a sea of blue, from balloons and flags to bows on fences and poles to show the importance of the thin blue line.

It’s this kind of support from everyone in the community that is helping police heal from this tragedy.

“That’s all you really can do is pray and be with everyone,” neighbor, Dalton Koonce said.

The city of Trenton is holding a candlelight vigil for the deputies at 8 p.m. Saturday.
