Contractor accused of not paying Jacksonville workers at 6 events this year

Jacksonville workers at six concerts and events across Florida this year say contractor Accurate Event Group paid them late, or not at all.

On Monday, Action News Jax reported that Accurate Event Group has failed to pay dozens of security guards who worked at Welcome To Rockville more than five weeks ago.

Since then, Jacksonville workers at four more events have reached out to Action News Jax, saying Accurate Event Group has not paid them either.

“I thought I was the only person that didn’t get paid,” said Jacksonville worker Christopher Rose.

Rose said Accurate Event Group still has not paid him for working at Welcome To Rockville or Funk Fest in Orlando.

Rose said he’s been waiting on nearly $600 since April.

“I’m behind on my rent. My insurance got canceled on my car. My phone’s off. My dog needs to go to the vet,” said Rose.

Theresa Tearney reached out to Action News Jax from her Jacksonville hospital bed.

The $600 that Tearney said Accurate Event Group owes her after working three Orlando events would help pay her medical bills.

She said Accurate Event Group president Gordon Marrin called her after Action News Jax’s story aired on Monday.

“He’d been promising me since March to take care of things, I would get my paycheck. But he didn’t respond to me until after the newscast, asking me not to speak to any reporters, not to speak to any lawyers,” said Tearney. “They are a bad company, using people.”

Tearney said Accurate Event Group offered to pay her $10 an hour to work at three Orlando events: a Wyclef Jean concert at Orlando Caribbean Festival in March, the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores show in March, and a Flo Rida concert in April.

In February, Action News Jax exposed that Accurate Event Group took three months to pay temp workers for the Jacksonville IKEA grand opening.

The same accusations were made against the contractor after an Ohio IKEA grand opening last summer.

Accurate Event Group president Gordon Marrin and CFO Elliot Rosenblatt did not respond to Action News Jax’s call and email Tuesday.

If your employer is not paying you, a Florida Dept. of Labor spokesman said you should call your local Wage and Hour Division office.
