Death of Jacksonville 2-month-old remains unsolved almost a year later

Right now, JSO and DCF are investigating the death of a 2-month-old as a murder.

Kai Tacti was only 2 months old when he died in January. Now, close to a year later, his death remains unsolved.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s office listed the case of baby Kai Tacti on Dec. 18 of last year.

An online obituary says the child died Jan. 14.

We looked through the list of child fatalities for 2018 on the Department of Children and Families website and found the agency is currently investigating the death of a child on Jan. 14.

DCF said “a 2-month-old infant was taken off life support and pronounced deceased 4 weeks after he sustained a head injury while at home.”

We checked with JSO and they confirmed the child’s death is being investigated as a murder.

So far, there are no known suspects and no arrests have been made, and it’s unclear who the child was with at the time of the fatal injury.

The case is currently listed as open.

We looked through the list of 2018 child fatalities on the DCF website and found the agency is currently investigating 11 child deaths with 42 total child fatalities listed for Duval County in 2018.

These investigations are listed as "under investigation."

DCF says child death cases can remain under investigation pending autopsy reports, or pending criminal cases.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson says child death cases typically take a longer time to solve and JSO will work closely with DCF during investigations.
