Kelvin Peterson said he visits the memorial on Satilla Street in Kingsland every other day.

The memorial marks the spot where his cousin Tony Green was shot and killed by a Kingsland Police Officer.

“Just to talk to him, just to have a conversation with him, period. Just to see if I can hear something,” Peterson, Green's cousin, said.

Zechariah Presley, the officer who shot Green, he been charged with voluntary manslaughter. Presley has subsequently been fired.

According to investigators, Presley stopped Green during a traffic stop. Green tried to run away, and Presley fired several shots, killing the 33-year-old.

Why would Green be running from the officer?

“I mean from what the report says, he had already been harassing him," Peterson said.

Action News Jax obtained records on Green from the Kingsland Police Department. Documents appear to show the local father had a previous encounter with Presley during a trespassing call in March 2018.

According to the reports, Green was charged in 2016 with willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor.

His cousin believes the history between the two may have played a role in the shooting.

“It’s going to always be in the back of your mind, “ Peterson said.
