Driver of SUV cited in motorcycle accident that killed young father

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The driver of an SUV involved in a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a young father was charged with failure to yield.

Police said the driver of the Ford Explorer was turning west onto Beach Boulevard from Cortez Road Saturday night when she failed to yield for a motorcycle driven by Chris Cochran, 28.

Cochran hit the back of the Explorer and died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was on vacation and had a 5-year-old in the backseat of the SUV.

Cochran's wife said he died on impact. He had a 5-year-old son and was expecting a baby girl this summer.

His wife began a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral costs. The $3,000 fundraising goal was surpassed within 10 hours of its creation.

Cochran's friends are planning a motorcycle ride, "One Last Ride" on April 16th, to raise more funds for his family.

Cochran's wife described him as a kind person with a big heart and goofy spirit.

"I never thought I would be without him and just do not know where to start," she wrote on the page.

Cochran's friend Kyle Wade said the two were headed back to Orange Park when the crash happened.

They took a photo together shortly before the crash.

Cochran's wife laid flowers at a makeshift cross at the crash scene Sunday night.

She said she's thankful for all the support she's received and is not ready to talk about it yet.
