18-year-old woman is dead following “targeted shooting” in Hyde Park Apartment Complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are continuing their investigation Tuesday afternoon into what led up to this shooting that killed an 18-year-old woman in Hyde Park.

We spoke with neighbors in the area who said they didn’t personally know the victim but crime here is a problem.

Two dozen evidence markers were found on streets of the Wickshire Apartment complex on 1570 Lane Avenue S.

It’s where investigators say the 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were shot inside a gold-colored car on Tuesday morning.

Crimes like these are what gospel rapper SoReal says are just too common in this area, especially among poor communities.

“These low budget communities, they get shoved to the side. Shoved to the side so if that continues to happen, it ain’t going to be no change,” SoReal says.

Both victims were taken to the hospital where the teen later died from her injuries.

Multiple officers were inside the complex for hours, taking pictures, collecting evidence, and interviewing neighbors.

Police believe the shooting was targeted because of how many shots were fired.

SoReal didn’t want to show his face on camera, but he told me he would like to see more community centers in this area to help keep young people off the streets.

“Not saying everybody will go but some people will. you might get two out of 10 but I believe that’s good because it’s starting up something,” SoReal said.

Action News Jax also found out that the 18-year-old lived inside the complex.

We’ve been reaching out to JSO to see if they’ve located any surveillance video or cell phone footage, but we’re still waiting to hear back.

We asked for any suspect information or a description of a vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
