Body ‘submerged in a container’ found in retention pond of Southside neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person walking his dog saw what appeared to be a body in a retention pond Sunday and alerted police, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

When officers arrived to the Windy Hill neighborhood on Jacksonville’s Southside, they found the body of a man “submerged in a container” in the water.

Tim Anderson who lives nearby found the man near Anders Boulevard.

“There was a big Rubbermaid Tupperware bin and there was a body hanging half in and half out of it in the water,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he was in disbelief when he walked up on the container thinking it was a mannequin until he got a closer look.

“I really wasn’t sure if it was real at first, might have been a mannequin or something,” Anderson said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office transparency page, the victim was a 43-year-old man.

He was not clothed when he was found.

Police have not released an identity of the victim or suspect information.

Once divers removed the body from the water, “it was discovered that the victim had been shot,” JSO stated.
