JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — For the past 17 months, the family of Richard Wilson, Jr. has pleaded for answers about the crash that killed him.
In February 2018, Florida Highway Patrol reported that a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on February 8, 2019, at about 11:40 p.m. on North Main Street and Kirkland Road. Troopers found 35-year-old Richard Wilson Jr. dead at the scene.
The driver was nowhere to be found.
“I wish (driver) would’ve stopped that night and rendered aid to my nephew. And I wish (driver) could’ve came forward and took responsibility,” Wilson’s Uncle, Alton Wilson said.
After more than a year, police identified the driver and made an arrest.
According to the FHP crash report, 36-year-old Kristal Ann Leclerc was the driver of a Ford F150 pickup truck.
JSO jail records show this is Leclarc’s first arrest in Jacksonville. She was arrested on six charges, including DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash.
Action News Jax requested the arrest warrant from the State Attorney’s Office to learn what led officers to make an arrest.
Wilson said he hopes Leclerc will be held accountable.
“We lost a loved one, our family is hurt. Our hearts ache. I don’t know how you get justice for that. At least an arrest is made and she’ll be held accountable for her actions,” Wilson said.
