JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville family is without a home right before the holidays following a morning fire on the Northside on Friday.
Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told Action News Jax a blanket was near a heater that was left unattended and the fire broke out.
Cedric Hinson, who lives at the home with his family of four, says he woke up to black smoke and immediately grabbed a water hose to try to put out the fire.
JFRD said they received a call about the fire at 9 a.m. and were at the home within four minutes. They were able to get the fire under control about 10 minutes after arriving.
Hinson said they lost everything. “Just the fact that the little bit of stuff that I did have, it’s gone now. I got nothing now,” Hinson said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe for anyone who feels inclined to help.
