A family is preparing for the funeral of a 26-year-old man killed in a shootout in a Jacksonville neighborhood.
James Suckow’s longtime girlfriend said he was outgoing and had a big heart.
“He was a really good person. He just wanted love,” she told Action News Jax.
Suckow died at the hospital after he was hurt in a shootout at the intersection of Pottsburg Drive and East Road at 11:30 p.m. on March 6, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.
Investigators detained people from both cars and questioned them, but no arrests have been made, a JSO spokesperson said.
“No one deserves that,” Suckow's ex-girlfriend said. “He was a good person and this wasn’t meant for him.”
She told Action News Jax that Suckow played guitar and was getting back into music.
She said she wants him to be remembered for his fun-loving, friendly personality, not for the shootout that claimed his life.
“The good guy he was, the good-hearted person -- he had a heart of gold,” she said.
A funeral for Suckow is scheduled for Saturday at Lampkins Patterson Funeral Home, according to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for his burial services.
